News Desk, Kolkata : In response to the vacant investigation in the sensational case, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed, as directed by the Single Bench. The Chief Justice of the Division Bench, Justice T.S. Shuvajit Mera, issued an order to create an SIT to probe into the case, highlighting the dissatisfaction with the state’s investigation. The gravity of the matter prompted ID lawyer S.V. Raju to express concern, stating, “It’s a very serious issue. Bias may arise if the state investigates.”
During the hearing, Raju questioned how the state police, especially when a minister is involved, could conduct an impartial investigation. He argued that a Joint Team would not be able to clear the bias. Emphasizing the CBI’s capability, he suggested their involvement in the investigation.
From the outset, the ID was not pleased with the ongoing investigation by the SIT. Their stance was clear: how can the state police conduct an unbiased inquiry when the main accused is a minister in the state government?
The ID’s perspective gains traction, as even earlier, when the case was under the Single Bench, questions arose repeatedly. The primary accusation against the accused minister, who is also a part of the state government, makes it challenging for the state police to carry out an objective investigation.
Interestingly, the question of why the police haven’t arrested the main accused despite the serious allegations was raised during the previous hearings when the case was under the Single Bench. The accused continues to remain at large, adding to the complexity of the situation.
In the recent hearing, Chief Justice showed reluctance to hear anyone else’s statements directly and issued specific directives regarding the SIT’s investigation. Similarly, an interim stay order was issued on all investigations conducted by the state police, further emphasizing the need for an unbiased inquiry.
The corruption in the investigation became evident when ID officials surrounded the residence of Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan in the Sarberia village. However, chaos erupted during the raid, leading to a violent clash between the villagers and ID officials. The situation escalated quickly, with villagers armed with bamboo sticks, rods, and iron rods confronting the ID officials.
The clash resulted in injuries to two ID officials, and the situation took an unexpected turn when Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel intervened to rescue their colleagues. Following this incident, an FIR was filed against ID officials, reflecting the complexities and challenges surrounding the investigation.
The unfolding events paint a vivid picture of the intricacies and power dynamics involved in the case. The reluctance of the state police to investigate a case involving a government minister, coupled with the tensions during the ID’s attempt to apprehend the accused, adds layers to this already complex narrative.
As the case unfolds, it raises crucial questions about the effectiveness of the state’s investigative machinery and the need for external agencies to ensure a fair and impartial inquiry. The tangled web of political influence, law enforcement challenges, and public sentiment makes this case a gripping saga with twists and turns that continue to captivate the attention of the public and legal observers alike.
