China is now hailed as a tea-loving nation, with a special affinity growing among the new generation for Darjeeling and Assam teas. The Consul General of China in Kolkata, Jha Liyou, emphasized the significance, stating that China is giving importance to Indian tea exports, especially from Darjeeling and Assam.
Consul General Jha Liyou, in his Salt Lake residence, highlighted that China acknowledges the demand, attributing immense importance to facilitating the import of Indian tea to China. He asserted that in the past nine months alone, China has issued visas to 180,000 Indians, including 8,000 from Kolkata. Among them, around 300 individuals are pursuing medical studies in China. However, Liyou expressed regret that the number of visas for Chinese citizens coming to India is relatively low.
Despite issuing visas from offices in Delhi and Mumbai, only a small number of Chinese citizens are granted visas to visit India. Liyou lamented this situation, acknowledging his disappointment with the existing restrictions. He revealed a particular concern about the suspension of air travel between India and China, hoping for improvements in the coming year. Liyou believes that resuming air travel would not only benefit tourism but also enhance business ties between the two nations.
The Consul General expressed his sorrow over several aspects of the current situation. One of the prominent issues is the continued suspension of international flights between India and China. He expressed hope that this situation will improve in the coming year, leading to increased tourism and business opportunities for both nations. Peking University in Beijing has organized a special event in May, inviting five professors from Kolkata and Shantiniketan. This event could potentially be hosted at the Chinese Embassy in India.
