State Health Secretary Narayan Swarup Nigam and Dr Saptarshi Chatterjee (MSVP, R G Kar Medical College and Hospital) visited their house on Wednesday. They handed over the death certificate to the parents. The victim’s parents claimed that they didn’t have that document for so long and complained about this several times. Finally, they got the death certificate, after getting the death certificate, abhaya father said, “Health Secretary came to our house. He gave the original copy of my daughter’s death certificate. He said, if another copy is needed later, MSVP will provide it. We have received and if necessary, we can take the print out.”
Abhaya father also said, “It is difficult for a father to search for his daughter’s death certificate, only he who searches understands, we got it thanks to everyone. No real answer as to why it took us so long to get it.” Leaving the victim’s house, the health secretary said, “They were supposed to give the death certificate.” I came with that, incidentally, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee mentioned the issue of RG Kar in the assembly speech on Wednesday. She said, “We want the RG Kar girl to get justice.”
On August 9, a female doctor was raped and murdered while on duty. The junior doctors went on hunger strike for a long time in protest against the incident. The lower court convicted the accused civic volunteer Sanjay Roy and sentenced him to life imprisonment. However, the victim’s family claims that many others are involved in the incident. They called to continue the movement to demand their punishment.
When asked about this, Dr. Tapas Pramanik said, “Due to the malpractice and failure of the previous hospital authority Sandeep Ghosh, the present government had to suffer in various ways. Finally, the state government handed over the death certificate of Abhaya to the family.
Dr. Pramanik also said, “The necessary documents related to Abhaya’s death were handed over to the police from the hospital long ago, which the police were supposed to hand over to Abhaya’s family but delayed this much. The Kolkata Police had delayed so much and made excuses which as a result, Abhaya’s family had to suffer so much trouble to get this Death Certificate.”
