News Desk, Kolkata : Shubhendu Adhikari, a leader of the opposition party, alleged that thousands of names have been deleted from the voter list in Diamond Harbour parliamentary constituency. He claimed that many key members of his party are also missing from the list. In response, the ruling Trinamool party dismissed the accusation as an attempt to gain publicity.
Shubhendu raised this allegation during a party event in Haripal, Hooghly, on Saturday. He even posted about it on his social media handle. He mentioned the names of several individuals who were excluded from the voter list. Shubhendu stated that it was an unfortunate attempt by the administration to secure the victory in the upcoming by-election.
In a counter-response, the Trinamool party accused Shubhendu of trying to create a buzz for the upcoming elections. The ex-minister and Trinamool leader Arup Biswas commented on the issue, saying, “It seems like he is playing politics just for the sake of publicity. The change in his political stance is only to add color to administrative matters for political gains.”
He further clarified, “To secure the victory in the Bhaiyapore by-election, the BJP leaders are making baseless allegations. Our Diamond Harbour MP won with over three lakh votes. There is no need to manipulate the voter list for his victory.” The Trinamool leader emphasized that such allegations are not only limited to excluding BJP leaders’ names but also extend to including names from distant voting centers.
Shubhendu, however, stood firm on his claim, stating, “Names have been removed from the voter list even 15 kilometers away from their homes. This is a blatant attempt to manipulate the election model, maybe even from my uncle’s house!”
The political tussle escalated when several other opposition leaders joined Shubhendu’s cause, expressing concern over the alleged irregularities in the voter list. The BJP leaders called for an immediate investigation into the matter to ensure the transparency of the electoral process.
As the controversy unfolded, there was a recent update indicating that the Election Commission has taken cognizance of the issue. A team of officials has been deployed to investigate the alleged discrepancies in the voter list. The Election Commission assured that a fair and unbiased inquiry would be conducted to address the concerns raised by the opposition.
This incident has sparked a larger debate on the integrity of the electoral process, with opposition parties demanding accountability and transparency in the lead-up to the by-election. The ruling party, on the other hand, maintains that these allegations are merely a political ploy to create sensationalism and divert attention from more pressing matters.
In the midst of this political drama, the common voters in Diamond Harbour constituency are left in a state of confusion and concern. The credibility of the electoral system is under scrutiny, and citizens are eagerly awaiting the results of the Election Commission’s investigation.
As the by-election approaches, the political landscape is becoming increasingly charged, with both major parties locked in a war of words. The outcome of this controversy will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the electoral dynamics, setting the stage for a closely watched and highly contested by-election in Diamond Harbour.
