NIN Web Desk: Dr subhrojyoti chattopadhyay;  A devastating fire in the office of the Enforcement Directorate in Mumbai. A fire broke out in the ED’s office late Saturday-Sunday. The fire brigade had to fight for about six hours to put out the fire. Although the fire was finally brought under control, it is feared that a large number of documents were burnt to ashes. The ED office in the Kaiser-I-Hind building in Ballard Estate area of South Mumbai is reported to have caught fire there late at night, at around 2.30 am. Smoke was seen billowing and firefighters were seen climbing ladders and spraying water at Mumbai ED Office.

The Mumbai Fire Department said that they received a report of a fire at around 3.30 am. The fire has spread quite a bit and is said to be at level-2 level. The fire department immediately left for the ED office. Multiple fire engines reached the spot. It was seen that the fire has broken out on the fourth floor of the five-storey building. By then, the fire had reached level-3 level. The fire was then put out in a warlike manner. Eight fire engines, six jumbo tractors, an aerial tower tender, a breathing apparatus van, a rescue van, a quick response vehicle and an ambulance were deployed to douse the fire. But even then, the fire brigade had a hard time putting out the fire.

The fire was put out after about six hours of effort and long battle. There were no reports of casualties in the incident. However, it is feared that a large number of documents may have been burnt in the fire. In addition, it is feared that the equipment of the ED office may have also been destroyed. But what started the fire and how it became so destructive so quickly is still not clear. According to sources, the cause of the fire is not yet known with certainty. It is learnt that the matter is being investigated.
