State opposition leader Shuvendu Adhikari had demanded central forces to bring law and order under control. The bench of Justice Soumen Sen and Justice Raja Basu Chowdhury gave this order in the context of that case. In the context of the High Court’s verdict, Shuvendu Adhikari said today, ‘This is a big victory for the people of West Bengal. Mainly for the Hindus, who are being attacked by jihadists, fundamentalists and the police.
Shuvendu Adhikari filed an application in the High Court demanding central forces to control the chaos protesting against the Waqf Act. A special bench met at 4.30 pm on Saturday, this case came up in the division bench of Justice Soumen Sen and Justice Raja Basu Chowdhury. State opposition leader Shuvendu Adhikari had filed the case in the Calcutta High Court with a set of demands, including the deployment of central forces to quell the chaotic situation in several areas of the state in protest against the Waqf Act.
Justice Soumen Sen, while ordering the deployment of central forces in Murshidabad, said, “The court cannot turn a blind eye to such allegations. The central forces will work together with the police to maintain peace. If desired, the central forces can be called to control law and order in other places as well. Strict action will have to be taken after identifying the real criminals. The main goal of the court now is to restore peace and harmony.”
