News Desk, Kolkata : In 2019, Mimi Chakraborty, a prominent figure in the Trinamool Congress, sparkled in the party’s candidate list, defeating left leader Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya and securing a seat in the Parliament. However, after five years, as another Lok Sabha election approaches, the question arises: will the stars align for her once again? Expressing a desire to step away from parliamentary politics, Mimi Chakraborty revealed her intention to leave the political stage, citing frustration and mental distress.
Recently, sources indicate that Mimi has penned a letter to Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee, explicitly stating her decision to withdraw from electoral battles. In the letter, she conveys, “Over the past five years, I have been politically marginalized. I will remain a soldier of the party. I cannot endure this insult, neglect, and humiliation anymore.” Notably, Mimi claims to have faced not only disrespect but also neglect and abandonment, without specifying any allegations against someone.
On a Thursday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her desire to meet Mimi, following a letter Mimi reportedly sent on February 13. The letter, as sources suggest, outlines Mimi’s resolve to abstain from electoral contests and endure the mental agony she has been facing. This declaration comes amidst a backdrop of political turbulence in West Bengal.
Deb, a Member of Parliament from Ghatal, also made headlines recently as he hinted at a departure from active politics. Following a meeting with Abhishek Bandyopadhyay, the editor of Trinamool’s official mouthpiece, Mamata expressed her thoughts on Deb’s statements. Subsequently, both Mamata and Deb shared the same stage.
Sources reveal that in her letter, Mimi detailed the mental distress she has been enduring due to disrespect, sometimes on stage, sometimes over the phone, and sometimes in other ways. Moreover, the letter alleges that Mimi has been compelled to endure not only disrespect but also neglect. The missive suggests that she cannot openly discuss the mental distress she is going through, prompting her to express these sentiments in writing.
The letter also touches upon Mimi’s contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting her efforts in Jadavpur. Mimi, in the letter, emphasizes her inability to articulate the mental trauma she faces daily and resorts to putting it in writing. Following the letter, Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee has reportedly sought a meeting with Mimi to discuss the situation.
In response to Mimi’s letter, Sujan Chakraborty, a left leader, commented on the alleged exploitation of artists, stating, “Artists have lost faith. Trinamool utilizes these artists for its own benefit. The stench of Trinamool’s politics sticks to these artists.” He speculates that Trinamool’s machinery may have exploited Mimi for money, potentially fueling the frustration of the parliamentarian. Sujan further adds, “When Mamata wakes up from sleep, she remembers those names and wants to stand them up. The expectation of being by people’s side cannot be anticipated from Trinamool.”
In the midst of political uncertainties and personal tribulations, Mimi Chakraborty’s decision to step back from electoral contests has added a new dimension to the political landscape in West Bengal. As the election season approaches, the unfolding drama within Trinamool Congress raises questions about the party’s internal dynamics and the challenges it faces in retaining key figures. The clash between political ambitions and personal distress adds intrigue to the unfolding narrative, leaving observers eager to see how this chapter in West Bengal’s politics will evolve.
