NIN Web Desk : (Dr subhrojyoti chattopadhyay) ; Sugary drinks increases the cancer risk in women, such information has come out in a new study. It has been said that women who do not smoke, do not drink, but drink sweet drinks or soft drinks regularly, have a higher risk of mouth cancer. If you swallow a sugary drink even once a day,
Your risk of mouth cancer increases by five times compared to those who do not drink anything sweet. (Oral Cancer Linked to Sugary Drinks) has published a new research paper, the research paper titled High Sugar-Sweetened Beverage Intake and Oral Cavity Cancer in Smoking and Non-Smoking Women says that Oral Cancer is increasing among women. Oral cancer is on the rise, especially among young women who do not smoke, drink, or have any other risk factors. Scientists said that their diet is responsible for this.
Oral Cancer was once more common in older men. Tobacco consumption, drinking alcohol, betel nut chewing were the causes for it. But health conscious people have gradually reduced the consumption of tobacco. Despite that, scientists believe that diet plays a role in the rate at which Oral Cancer is increasing.
They blame sugary drinks for the increase of Oral Cavity Cancer especially in women. In 2020, more than 3 lakh 55 thousand patients were diagnosed with Oral Cancer among them, 1 lakh 77 thousand people died. Most of the patients were non-smokers and their age was relatively young. In that regard, research has found a connection between sweet drinks, soft drinks and mouth cancer. Sugary drinks have previously been linked to colorectal and gastrointestinal cancers.
The association of sugary drinks with brain and neck cancer has not been studied so far. This time sensational information came to the fore. In the journal JAMA Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, Dr. Brittany Barber said, “This is a new frontier in oral cancer research”. Dr Barber also said, “Oral cancer is less common than breast and colon cancer but among women who do not smoke or drink alcohol, Oral Cancer is also increasing day after day.” Scientists also think that there is a need for separate research on the effect of sugary drinks on men’s bodies.
