NIN Web Web Desk : (Dr subhrojyoti chattopadhyay); Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not attend the Victory Day parade in Russia. The Victory Day parade is scheduled for May 9. The Defense Minister will be present at the parade organized in Moscow on that occasion, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has said. Russia had already invited Prime Minister Modi for this significant event. However, the Prime Minister cancelled the visit due to the chaos between India and Pakistan over the death of 26 people in the Pahalgam terrorist attack. He had earlier cut short his Saudi Arabia visit and returned home after receiving news of the bloodshed in the valley. The Prime Minister has been holding a series of meetings since the Pahalgam attack. From meetings with the armed forces chiefs to meetings with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, he also chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Wednesday. This is the first meeting since the Pulwama terror attack in 2019.

The annual Moscow Victory Day parade, a major military display, takes place on May 9 in Red Square as part of Russia’s Victory Day celebrations. The parade of the Russian armed forces carries a lot of symbolic importance, with Russian President Vladimir Putin usually attending as the guest of honour and delivering a speech. The event is a prominent display of Russian military power and a major event. Meanwhile, within days of US President Donald Trump’s social media post, Russia has announced a ceasefire with Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a three-day ceasefire. The fighting will not continue from May 8 to May 10, it has been announced, “for humanitarian reasons”.

However, Russia will not hesitate to respond if it is violated. Kremlin said, “Russia believes that Ukraine will follow this example. In the event of a ceasefire violation by the Ukrainian side, the Russian armed forces will respond adequately and effectively.” A few days ago, the US president wrote on social media, “I am not happy with the Russian attack on Kiev (the capital of Ukraine). It was not necessary, it was done at a very bad time. Vladimir, stop! 5,000 soldiers are dying every week.”
