News Desk, Kolkata :  In Sandeshkhali, a shocking incident has unfolded where a learned IPS officer has been accused by BJP activists of being a ‘Khalistani,’ leading to a political uproar. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee faced severe criticism in the aftermath. The Additional Director General of South Bengal, representing the state government, has now addressed the issue, asserting that all necessary legal steps will be taken in light of the incident.

The top official stated, ‘Deliberate attacks based on religious beliefs are unacceptable. A duty-bound police officer from the opposing party labeled a colleague as a Khalistani.’ Emphasizing the importance of not associating any profession or religion with such remarks, he added, ‘Regardless of one’s profession or religious background, no one should be identified as Khalistani. Such statements will not be tolerated, and we will take all legal measures.’

The official further clarified that neither he nor any associate made such inflammatory remarks. On Tuesday, opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari visited Sandeshkhali, accompanied by BJP legislator Agnimitra Paul and Shyamal Ghosh. During the confrontation, the police officer Yashprit Singh, who wore a turban, was allegedly labeled as a Khalistani.

Mamata Banerjee responded to the incident by posting a video tweet. In the video, the police official stated, ‘Just because I wear a turban, does that make me a Khalistani? Why are you questioning my religion? I will take action.’ Despite the video showing the police officer not actively intervening, Agnimitra Paul expressed dissatisfaction with the police response.

Although opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari remarked, ‘We don’t need to say all these things. The officer has been accustomed to using such language against us. Neither I nor any associate has ever attacked his religion or made inappropriate comments about the Sikh faith. We have immense respect for the Sikh community. They have made significant contributions to the country’s independence.’
