After a long nine and a half months, Sunita touched the earth, along with her companion Barry Butch Wilmore. SpaceX’s Crew-9 spacecraft landed them over the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Florida.
NASA’s Nick Hague and Russia’s ROSCOSMOS’ Alexander Gorbunov returned to Earth by the spacecraft. Sunita left for Earth from the International Space Station on Tuesday. After a long journey of 17 hours, they reached the earth at 3:27 am on Tuesday morning. The Crew-9 spacecraft capsule lands in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Florida. It was dropped by parachute from a certain distance for safe landing and the capsule landed directly in the water.
SpaceX’s ship was already waiting there and they were the ones who reached out to rescue the astronauts. At that time all eyes were on the capsule, when the astronauts will come out, everyone was eagerly waiting. In such a situation, Sunita practically slipped out of the capsule. She held the hands of the rescuers with a smile, showed thumbs up to fans. Sunita and Barry went on a squeeze ride on the Boeing Starliner spacecraft in June last year. The campaign was supposed to last for eight days. But nine to nine and a half months have passed since then. Sunitara got stuck in space as the spaceship malfunctioned. Although the spacecraft was later repaired and brought back to Earth, NASA did not take the risk of sending Sunita on board. Instead, Elon Musk’s company SpaceX was given the responsibility. Despite that, the campaign to return Sunitas was repeatedly delayed but in the end, Sunitara returned safely to earth.
The whole world was practically waiting for Sunita’s return. There is also a mood of happiness in India as he returned safely. The air of happiness at the return of Sunita of Indian origin is everywhere. Pictures and videos of Sunita’s comeback celebration with fireworks have surfaced.
