NIN Web Desk : Dr subhrojyoti chattopadhyay; Dr Subarna Goswami, one of the main faces of the doctors’ movement against the RG Kar case, has got the transfer notice. The father of the slain doctor criticized the government. He said, “The government is afraid of the movement.” Dr.Goswami was transferred 14 times in his 21-year service life. He was transferred five times to the same post, Dr Goswami has been transferred 8 times during Trinamool tenure. He was currently in the post of Deputy Chief Health Officer (2) in East Burdhaman. From that post, he has been transferred to the post of Superintendent of TB Hospital in Darjeeling which is not a promotion rather Demotion. During the RG Kar movement, he has repeatedly come out against the state government, health administration and police.
Dr Subarna Goswami was at the forefront of the protest from a long time. The mother and father of the deceased doctor were also angry about the transfer of the protesting doctor from Burdwan. From there he is going to be sent to TB Hospital in Darjeeling. “When he (Dr Goswami) first came to our house, he first told everyone about the money that DC North offered, I can’t hide such a big truth. This transfer is for the reason that no new movement is created, the government is afraid of the movement. The more you do these things, the more the movement will grow” the father said.
Dr Goswami claimed that he has been demoted in this transfer. On this day, he said, “Those of us who speak against corruption, those who take to the streets to demand justice, those who speak against the threat culture, have to be transferred again and again. I was transferred to a hospital in Darjeeling, where there are almost no patients, and that post is a lower than my current one.” Joint Platform of Doctors, West Bengal called for a Deputation at Swastha Bhavan in protest of the incident. Memorandum has been given to the Officials.
However, according to Swastha Bhavan sources, this is a routine transfer. The doctor was in an administrative position and he has been transferred to the administrative post only. Despite the transfer, protesting Dr Subarna Goswami’s morale is unwavering. He said, “If anyone thinks that the movement demanding for justice, the movement against lawlessness, the movement against corruption will be weakened, then they are thinking wrong. This movement will be stronger, more intense. There is no problem in working, but if there is an unjust transfer, then the protest will continue and will take a huge form in the mere future.”
