News Desk, Kolkata : Over the past one and a half months, the headlines have echoed emptiness in Sandeshkhali. It seems like a smoldering fire has been brewing in the region, and today it has erupted into an explosive situation. Sandeshkhali is wielding the weapon of issues, with fingers pointing against the ruling party. Tensions have escalated to the point where the administration is now caught in a web of conflicts.
The once tranquil landscape is now dotted with government camps established in response to a multitude of allegations. These camps, operational from 10 in the morning until 5 in the evening, host government officials. The allegations have poured in since Sunday morning, creating a surge of complaints flooding the camp.
In the midst of this chaos, the tranquil waters of the sweetwater pond have been disturbed. Allegations range from encroachment on land to accusations of not paying fair wages for labor. Complaints of extortion and deceit have been hurled against Shibu Hazra and Uttam Sardar. Tales of financial discrepancies have unfolded, varying from claims of receiving 40,000 to a staggering 144,000 rupees.
The gravity of the situation has even prompted government officers to acknowledge the severity of the people’s plight. An official from the video office remarked, “We couldn’t comprehend the misery of the people in this area for so long. Now, we are beginning to understand.” The flood of complaints has led to the decision to centralize all the grievances within the relevant department for further investigation.
Pradyot Singh, a resident of Sandeshkhali, visited the camp today and shared his experience. According to him, Uttam Sardar had borrowed 60,000 rupees and promised to repay within a month but failed to do so. Moreover, Singh claimed that 24,000 rupees were withdrawn from his account without his consent, out of which only 22,000 were returned.
From sweet shops to clothing stores, numerous individuals are alleging thousands and thousands of rupees owed to them. These claimants are now marching towards the camp office, armed with their account details. A district official stated, “Many are expressing their grievances. Some say they haven’t received money, while others received money but were threatened. Many are breaking into tears as they speak.”
The question arises – has the administration been oblivious to these issues for so long, or have they deliberately turned a deaf ear? The very fabric of Sandeshkhali seems to be unraveling, exposing a web of discontent and maltreatment that had remained veiled for an extended period.
As the saga unfolds, the tale of Sandeshkhali has transformed from a tranquil hamlet to a battleground of grievances. The once serene pond now reflects the ripples of discontent, and the government camps stand as a testament to the mounting tensions in the region. The narratives of the people, once drowned in silence, are now echoing through the corridors of the administration, demanding attention and resolution. The unfolding drama in Sandeshkhali serves as a stark reminder of the complexities embedded in the grassroots, often overshadowed by the larger political landscape.
