News Desk, Kolkata : Shahjahan Sheikh, the Trinamool leader from Sandeshkhali, has received a second notice from the CID, not for the first time. However, rather than appearing in response to the notice, he has chosen to approach the court with an anticipatory bail plea, expressing concerns about the possibility of arrest.
On Saturday, Shahjahan, represented by his lawyer Sabyasachi Bandyopadhyay, faced questioning from the special court of the CID. He emphasized the matter of the lookout notice issued by the CID in court, stating, “The lookout notice against my client implies that the CID intends to curtail his freedom and arrest him.” Despite the lawyer’s apprehensions and sending summons, Shahjahan’s arrest remains uncertain, leading his legal team to seek anticipatory bail.
In addition to these legal developments, Shahjahan’s legal counsel informed the court that no prior notice was given before conducting searches at his client’s residence. The lawyer raised a pertinent question – why was no notice issued before the search at the Trinamool leader’s house? Shahjahan’s lawyer clarified, “Police have filed six cases related to ration corruption. In some of them, charge sheets have been filed. However, there is no mention of my client’s name in the FIR or ECIR from the CID.” Despite this, the looming possibility of Shahjahan’s arrest has prompted his legal team to request anticipatory bail from the court.
Furthermore, Shahjahan’s legal representative disclosed that on January 5, the CID officials attempted to conduct a search at Shahjahan’s residence. However, the public intervened and halted the search. Subsequently, a case was filed against a section of the public involved in the incident. Later, the CID returned with a search warrant related to espionage.
Sabyasachi Bandyopadhyay asserted that although three cases have been filed in connection with the incident, Shahjahan’s name is absent in one of them. Despite this, a lookout notice against him was issued, prompting the request for anticipatory bail.
It’s worth noting that since the incident involving the attack on the CID in Sandeshkhali, Shahjahan Sheikh has not been seen in the area. His whereabouts remain unknown, and there have been no public sightings of him since the Sandeshkhali incident. The situation has given rise to speculation about his current location and has created an air of mystery around the Trinamool leader.
