NIN Web Desk : After medicine, another fear rises with the increase in the price of vaccines. That’s exactly why, along with the maternity mothers, their families are worried about the vaccines for the children. 90% (126 crore) of the country’s total 140 crore) population has to live with Doctor’s advice. And with the 22% of them need the vaccine on an emergency basis. In this case, most of the vaccines are used for ‘pregnant mothers’ and babies. In that case, after the BJP government’s ‘April Fool‘ bloomed on the first day of April, the concern has increased, will the same thing occur in the field of antidote/vaccine? And if that’s the case, then there will be immense tension on the ordinary people, mainly mothers and children, with the vaccines they take!
* In this case it is necessary to look back a little.
In post-independent India, there were very few companies in the field of drugs and vaccines, among which Bharat Biotech was one. 90 to 95% of the country’s vaccines are prepared by them. However, this polio vaccine was first discovered and prepared in America in 1955 and the oral vaccine was discovered in 1961, which took 39 years to come to our country India, i.e. in October 1994. The main reason behind India’s delay in getting polio vaccine is due to lax international relations.
It is to be noted at that time the number of polio patients was about 26 percent of the Indian population (110-112 crores). Later in 1996, ‘Bharat Biotech’ started producing polio vaccine in the country itself. Needless to say, even now the BJP government is largely relying on private companies to produce vaccines.
According to the statistics of government and private vaccine manufacturers in this regard –
* There are a total of 21 vaccine manufacturing companies across the country.
* Out of which 14 are completely private organizations.
* 4 are run by Government of India initiative.
* 3 companies are fully controlled by Government of India (GOI).
Whereas the number of government agencies producing vaccines is very less which does not come in any ratio, the question has started to arise from there. Even in 2025, why the BJP government has not been able to create the majority of vaccine manufacturing companies under the control of the center? Needless to say, the vast majority i.e. 14 companies are completely private companies but Bharat Biotech produce 90-95 percent of vaccines, while other companies produce 70%. Public Enterprises and Direct Government Agencies have lower vaccine productions.
In the year 2020-21 due to the Corona epidemic, a considerable shortage of this vaccine was felt in the country, the common people of the country were the victims. The BJP government could not even learn from that situation. Is the BJP government’s main objective is “Privatisation”,
* many questions are also being raised about it?
1. By what magic do most private companies make vaccines?
2. Why are they the ones who buy electoral bonds at higher prices, to protect any interests?
3. Why are the lives of the people of the country 140 million in their hands? What is called invisible power?
4. Is it a strong effort to bring the country’s R&D corporate companies to the fore and push the state-owned enterprises to the back row and make the entire country corporate oriented?
We spoke directly to Chandrima Bhattacharya, State Minister for Health of the state. She said, “The Center is ignoring the common people and creating obstacles by imposing various ‘taxes’. The Center has increased the prices of common medicines, now what will happen if the prices of vaccines (which are used for ‘prenatal mothers’ and children) also increases? It is understood that the BJP government wants to do business by putting pressure on the common people. The Center has to collect money for foreign travel, for which it is doing this business.”
Referring to electoral bonds, the minister said, “Even though the Supreme Court has declared these ‘bonds’ illegal, it still wants to illegally promote one class of people and kill the rest.”
