News Desk, Kolkata :  In 2022, TET (Teacher Eligibility Test) aspirants sought permission to protest in a sit-in manner at the High Court premises, a plea granted by Justice Joy Sen Gupta. Although the primary TET exams had taken place, interviews were yet to be conducted. In response, candidates, seeking permission to stage a peaceful protest, submitted applications from February 1st. By February 4th, many had already gathered for the sit-in, but lacking police authorization, they found themselves outside the High Court’s jurisdiction.

The case was heard on Monday in Justice Joy Sen Gupta’s courtroom. During the proceedings, it was revealed that the honorable judge had granted permission for a peaceful sit-in beside the cricket coaching camp of the benevolent Sourav Ganguly since February 1st. The unique juxtaposition of an educational protest with the presence of a cricket coaching camp added an intriguing layer to the narrative.

Former captain of Indian cricket team ‘Sourav Ganguly’

This situation unfolded against a backdrop of an education system grappling with irregularities. Since 2017, the state had not conducted any exams for the recruitment of primary school teachers. Meanwhile, multiple cases of corruption and malpractices surrounding job appointments led to investigations by central agencies. Amidst these challenges, the year 2022 witnessed the announcement of TET by the Primary Education Board. However, even after the initial examination, the scheduled interviews failed to materialize.

Fast forward to 2023, the TET saga continued with a fresh announcement, and once again, aspirants prepared for the exams. Despite the 2022 TET candidates claiming a smooth and lawful examination process, the interview phase remained elusive. Frustrated by the lack of progress, job seekers initiated a three-day sit-in protest, highlighting their grievances.

The courtroom drama featuring Justice Joy Sen Gupta took a surprising turn when it was disclosed that he had granted permission for the educational protest alongside Sourav Ganguly’s cricket coaching camp. This unexpected intersection of education and sports brought attention to the broader issues within the state’s educational framework.

As the protest unfolded, the media began to focus on the historical context of the teacher recruitment process. The absence of exams for five years, coupled with ongoing investigations into malpractices, created a complex landscape. The TET announcements of both 2022 and 2023 raised eyebrows, especially as the interview phase seemed to be plagued by delays.

Despite the challenges, the spirit of the job seekers remained resilient. They sought justice not just for their specific cause but as a symbol of the larger systemic issues plaguing education and job recruitment in the state. The narrative gained momentum, drawing attention from various quarters, including educators, activists, and the general public.

With each passing day of the sit-in, the story evolved into a symbol of perseverance against bureaucratic hurdles. The juxtaposition of education and cricket, represented by the coexistence of the TET protest and Sourav Ganguly’s coaching camp, captured the essence of the struggle for a brighter future.

As the news spread, public sentiment shifted in favor of the protesters, placing additional pressure on authorities to address their concerns. The narrative, once confined to the courtroom, expanded into a public discourse on the state of education and employment opportunities.

In the end, the TET aspirants not only sought permission to protest but inadvertently became catalysts for a broader conversation about the need for transparency, efficiency, and fairness in the state’s education and job recruitment processes. The sit-in protest, initially focused on a specific grievance, transformed into a powerful symbol of resilience and the collective pursuit of a just and equitable future.
