NIN365 Desk, Kolkata : Chief Minister Mamata held a press conference in Navanna on Thursday. There he was questioned about Justice Gangopadhyay without naming him. The journalist ask that, a judge of the High Court is making various comments on pending matters outside the court. What is the Chief Minister’s statement on this matter? Mamata said, “Don’t ask me all these questions! I will not comment on the judiciary. I know my symptoms. Don’t cross that line either.”
Abhishek Banerjee approached the Supreme Court on Wednesday against Calcutta High Court Judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay. The All India General Secretary of Trinamool has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court opposing the various comments made by the judge outside the court on the pending matter. The day after that, Mamata Banerjee faced questions in that context. The chief minister and Trinamool leader avoided direct comments about the judge. But what he is saying, many people think that he has an ‘indirect message’ to the judge.
Experienced politician and administrator Mamata knows that one cannot comment on the judicial system. As Chief Minister he is following his ‘Gandhi’. Mamata stopped saying this. But what he did not say, his “significance” is not less. Many in the administrative circles think that the Chief Minister has actually reminded everyone of their ‘Lakshmanrekha’ or ‘Seema’ by talking about his own Lakshmanrekha.
On Wednesday, Abhishek approached the country’s top court with a request for action against Justice Gangopadhyay. In his petition, it is said that the Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court should be given necessary instructions to take appropriate action against Justice Gangopadhyay.A special bench should be constituted in the High Court. The bench which hears recruitment cases. Apart from this, Abhishek demanded that Justice Gangopadhyay be ordered to refrain from the one-sided statements he is repeatedly making outside the court. The Diamond Harbor MP requested to remove the case from the bench of Justice Amrita Singh.
Justice Gangopadhyay raised questions about Abhishek’s property a few days ago. He asked in front of the press, what is the source of Abhishek’s wealth as a leader? Will the MP account for his property? Citing the example of Left leader Meenakshi Mukhopadhyay, the judge said, “If Abhishek posts on social media with the account of assets, then I will apply the same to his contemporary leader, say Meenakshi Mukhopadhyay or other leaders. They also make property affidavits and give them on social media.
We want to see.” In the midst of all this, Mamata’s reply on Thursday to a question related to justice is considered to be ‘indicative’. Now let’s see if the Chief Minister’s ‘next message’ reaches Justice Gangopadhyay.
Incidentally, the Chief Minister did not say anything in detail about the incident of Sandeshkhali. He said that the investigation is going on. So he doesn’t want to comment. But last Friday, Justice Gangopadhyay publicly criticized the state government and the ruling party in the Sandeshkhalik case. He went to the hospital to see the ED officers suffering from Sandeshkhali. After leaving there, the judge said, “I went to see the ED officers at the hospital. How much money did the state government spend on the Supreme Court to stop the corruption investigation? I want to know the amount.” Elsewhere, the judge commented, “We all understand what kind of state it is running, what kind of administration it is running. Let’s see how long it lasts!”
