NIN Web Desk : (Dr subhrojyoti chattopadhyay); Yesterday, the State Drug Control Committee has raided several wholesale markets including Kolkata’s famous Bagri Market, Meheta building and temporarily seized fake drugs (medicines) worth twenty lakh rupees and had sent them for quality test. The State Drug Control Committee raided several places in the state and after which such incidents i.e. Fake Medicines/Low quality Medicines came to the forefront.
It is to be noted that earlier Central Drug Control i.e. CDSCO raided and seized drugs worth Rs 6 crore 60 lakh from Kolkata bhabanipur. This time, the state conducted a raid and temporarily confiscated fake medicines worth 20 lakh rupees. At the same time, the drug control board team of the state government raided several godowns in bhabanipur to Amta and seized fake drugs worth lakhs of rupees. About 20 lakh worth of counterfeit and low-quality drugs were recovered from during the raid. Basically the members were divided into six teams of the State Drug Control Board who conducted raids in different parts including Kolkata.
According to state drug control sources, six teams were formed, first training their officers on how to identify counterfeit drugs by scanning Barcodes. After that the State Drug Control Board with its team conducted raids at various places and then provisionally seized fake and substandard drugs (medicines) worth Rs.20 lakhs. It has been sent to the Drug Control Laboratory for testing.
According to the State Drug Control Board sources, this raid operation will continue in the upcoming days, if necessary, the vendor may be arrested or other necessary steps may be taken.
