News Desk, Kolkata :   In celebration of  Republic Day, India’s “Rocket Girls” emerged victorious, showcasing the triumph of women power. The spotlight shone on the female scientists who paved the way for the successful Chandrayaan-3 mission. The grand spectacle unfolded at the Indian Space Research Organization’s (ISRO) tableau, where the women scientists, diligently engrossed in their work on the Chandrayaan-3 mission, captured the audience’s attention.

Eight women scientists, tasked with responsibilities related to Chandrayaan-3’s tableau, were seen passionately engrossed in their work on computers. As they navigated their duties, a wave of enthusiasm swept through the spectators, witnessing their dedication. Notably, these eight women were not alone; they were part of a larger contingent of 220 women scientists from ISRO, who were present at the event upon a special invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In 2023, one of India’s remarkable achievements was the successful Chandrayaan-3 mission. The ISRO tableau displayed the lunar power point where Chandrayaan-3 had landed, along with models of the Vikram lander and Pragyan rover. The tableau vividly illustrated the journey from Earth’s orbit to Chandrayaan-3’s entry into the lunar orbit. Last year, ISRO also achieved a significant milestone with the Aditya L1 mission, exploring the solar realm. Leading this mission was another remarkable woman.

Additionally, the tableau featured images of India’s launch vehicle, the “Bahubali Rocket,” a model of the Mark 3, which will play a pivotal role in India’s future space station. Pictures of the envisioned space station and the Gaganyaan mission adorned the tableau, adding a futuristic touch. ISRO’s tableau also paid homage to ancient Indian astronomers like Aryabhata and Varahamihira, linking the past to the present.

Present at the audience’s forefront during the parade was ISRO’s Chairman, S. Somnath. He had previously expressed that after the leadership demonstrated by women in the Chandrayaan-3 and Aditya L1 missions, India could soon send a woman to space. Somnath revealed that initially, the idea of sending only male astronauts for the first human spaceflight mission was considered. However, during pilot selection, the Indian Air Force identified highly skilled female pilots, reshaping the narrative. This opens the door for Indian women to potentially become astronauts in the Gaganyaan mission, serving as space explorers and mission specialists.

As the tableau unfolded on the duty path, Somnath reiterated that ISRO welcomes women to contribute as astronauts and mission specialists in space missions. The audience was enthralled by the blend of history and the promising future painted by ISRO’s tableau.

In a broader context, ISRO’s achievements extend beyond lunar exploration. The tableau showcased the iconic Bahubali Rocket, a symbol of India’s prowess in launching vehicles. The Mark 3 model hinted at the nation’s ambitious plans for a space station, fostering dreams of sustained human presence beyond Earth.

The tableau also emphasized the role of women in shaping the trajectory of India’s space endeavors. The dedication and expertise of female scientists were acknowledged, laying the groundwork for gender-inclusive space exploration. ISRO’s commitment to diversity and progress echoed through the tableau, inspiring a new generation of aspiring scientists and explorers.

In conclusion, the Democracy Day celebration became a platform to highlight India’s strides in space exploration, with a focus on the significant contributions of women scientists. The tableau showcased not only past achievements but also presented a vision for India’s future in space, where women play a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s cosmic destiny. The audience witnessed a blend of tradition and modernity, symbolizing India’s journey from ancient stargazers to contemporary space pioneers. The tableau served as a testament to ISRO’s commitment to inclusivity and innovation, making Democracy Day 2023 a memorable chapter in India’s space exploration saga.
