NIN Web Desk : (Dr subhrojyoti chattopadhyay) ; Watching the sunset, sipping on your favorite coffee or drink, looking at the sky and tasting your favorite food. This experience is very popular with the entire Kolkata population. Keeping in mind the demand of the customers, rooftop restaurants are set up in the alleys of Kolkata, whose formal name is Rooftop Restaurants. But for those who love to enjoy nature while eating, there is big bad news. All the rooftop restaurants in Kolkata are closing down suddenly. ‘There will be no rooftop restaurants in Kolkata for now’, Kolkata Municipality has issued guidelines due to the Barabazar incident. ‘Roofs like stairs are not owned by anyone, they cannot be sold’, the Municipality has issued strict guidelines after a meeting with the police and fire brigade. Due to this decision, restaurants are facing a big loss in business.
Starting from the newly sprouted alley restaurants to several traditional restaurants in Kolkata, there is a facility to eat on the roof. The roof is beautifully decorated with warm light. Eating in that light is a real fantasy. In some places, there is also a drinking facility. In some places, jacuzzis are even used to decorate the roof, and live concerts are held. This rooftop restaurant is quite popular with the people of Kolkata. From the north to the south of the city, there are more or less rooftop restaurants everywhere, but the number of rooftop restaurants is much higher in South Kolkata and Salt Lake. Restaurant owners feared a big loss in business due to this decision of the municipality.
More than 10 people died in a devastating fire that occured in the hotel at Barabazar recently. The reason for this death is being attributed to incompetence. Many say that since the stairs of the hotel were closed, many could not escape. Many could not even climb to the roof of the restaurant. After checking various hotels, it was found that the fire extinguishing system was also not working in several hotels. The stairs or roof of the hotel are closed in many places. There is no proper fire extinguishing protection in the hotel, but rooms have been built on top of each other. 6 restaurants on Park Street have been closed in a drive recently. And now a big blow has occured to the owners of the rooftop restaurants of Kolkata.
