News Desk, Kolkata : As winter bids adieu in the state of West Bengal, the possibility of rain looms large, especially in the southern regions starting from Tuesday. According to the Alipore Weather Office, five districts in South Bengal could experience rainfall, potentially soaking Purba Bardhaman, Paschim Bardhaman, Murshidabad, Birbhum, and Nadia. Following that, from Wednesday onwards, other southern districts might also witness rain, with Kolkata possibly experiencing some drizzles. The Weather Office suggests that while it might rain lightly to moderately across various districts, there won’t be heavy rainfall anywhere. The forecast indicates that light to moderate showers accompanied by cool temperatures are expected over the next few days.
Until Thursday, several districts in South Bengal have already experienced rain. However, there might be some changes in the weather pattern thereafter. The Weather Office hasn’t ruled out the possibility of a return of colder temperatures if the clouds from the rainfall clear up. Many speculate that West Bengal might witness a cool spell akin to the recent trend.
On Monday, the temperature in Kolkata saw a slight increase. The minimum temperature on Sunday was 12.9 degrees Celsius, which rose to 13.6 degrees Celsius on Monday, still a degree lower than the usual. The maximum temperature on Monday was 23.7 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal. It is anticipated that the maximum temperature won’t exceed 24 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
Not only the southern regions but North Bengal is also witnessing a shift in weather conditions. While on Tuesday, only Darjeeling experienced the prelude to rainfall, from Wednesday onwards, light rain is expected in all the northern districts, according to the Weather Office. There might also be snowfall in the hilly areas.
The Alipore Weather Office highlights the formation of a reverse cyclonic circulation over the North Bay of Bengal. This could impede the entry of winds from the north into the state in the next few days. Instead, moist and vaporous air from the sea is likely to influence the southern part of the state. This phenomenon might lead to a conducive environment for rain in Kolkata and other parts of South Bengal.
In conclusion, the weather in West Bengal is undergoing a transition with the departure of winter. Rainfall is on the horizon, primarily in the southern districts, followed by a possible extension to other regions. The temperature is expected to remain cool, but the extent of the chill depends on the dissipation of rain clouds. Kolkata might experience mild drizzles, and the overall weather scenario seems favorable for a spell of light to moderate rain in different districts. The formation of a reverse cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal adds an interesting dynamic to the weather pattern, potentially influencing the atmospheric conditions in the coming days. As we await more updates, West Bengal appears poised for a weather shift, bidding farewell to winter with the promise of refreshing rain.
