NIN Web Desk : (Dr subhrojyoti chattopadhyay) ; The characteristic features of the world is changing due to climate change. There are various theories about whether the future world will be habitable or not. Even scientists have predicted that, they claim that within the next 100 million years everything will be destroyed by the rays of the sun. There will be no plants on earth, so there will be no supply of oxygen in the environment. That is, after 100 million years from today, the earth’s oxygen will run out. (Earth Without Oxygen) America’s space research agency NASA has started looking for alternative habitats outside the solar system. A research paper was published in the journal Nature Geoscience on March 1, 2021 under their Nexss project. That’s what makes exciting claims about the world of the future.
Scientists say, currently 78 percent nitrogen is in the earth’s atmosphere. Oxygen comprises 21 percent, argon 0.9 percent, and other gases 0.1 percent. These other gases include carbon dioxide, methane, water vapor and neon. Earth’s atmosphere has never had this much oxygen. Even for the first 200 years after the creation of the earth, there was no oxygen in the atmosphere. The first import of oxygen occured through algae. 240 million years ago, the oxygen level in the Earth’s atmosphere increased, behind which was the photosynthesis of algae, gradually the ecosystem developed.
Currently this supply of oxygen is also temporary according to scientists. Linked to that study, Kazumi Ozaki, a scientist at the University of Tokyo in Japan, said that the lifespan of the solar system is increasing with time. The sun will also become excessively hot at some point. This will also affect our atmosphere, carbon dioxide will begin to decrease first. As a result, those who produce oxygen by absorbing carbon dioxide, will begin to wipe out their existence from the earth. If oxygen is not produced, the existence of animal life will also be in crisis. As carbon dioxide levels decrease, plants will also die out. Even though billions of years are still at hand, once the process begins, oxygen will disappear from Earth within 10,000 years.
Chris Reinhart, a scientist at Georgia Tech, said that just as oxygen starts to decrease, methane levels will also start to rise. The level of methane in the atmosphere will increase 10 thousand times compared to the present. The oxygen-rich ozone layer will disappear completely which as a result, the ultraviolet rays will directly reach the earth, which will lead to destruction. If alternative planets are discovered in the future, or alternative ways of living dependent on oxygen can be discovered, ecosystems will change then only.
